The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has ordered its members at Cameron/Onesubsea Offshore Systems Nigeria Ltd to embark on an indefinite strike from 12:00 am, Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
The union accused the company of refusing to negotiate in good faith on issues surrounding the 2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
According to Comrade Sere Nwikiabeh, Assistant General Secretary of PENGASSAN’s Port Harcourt Zone, management ignored genuine efforts to resolve grievances, leaving workers with no choice but to down tools.
The action, consistent with recent strikes against Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Co. Ltd and Dangote Refinery, is aimed at protesting alleged anti-labour practices and unfair treatment of Nigerian workers.
“We have exhausted all avenues of negotiation and dialogue. Since management is unwilling to engage in good faith, we must take decisive action to protect and defend our members’ rights,” PENGASSAN said in its directive.
The strike notice instructed members at Cameron/Onesubsea to fully comply until demands are met. The union also notified regulatory and security agencies, including the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), NUIMS, Rivers State Police, and the DSS.
PENGASSAN stressed that the industrial action became inevitable after repeated appeals for fair labour practices were ignored.
