Former Ghanaian international, Asamoah Gyan, has accused Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen of feigning injury to avoid playing for the Super Eagles in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa.
Osimhen, who recently picked up a leg injury in Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Rwanda, returned to his club Galatasaray and missed the Super Eagles’ 1-1 draw with Bafana Bafana on Tuesday at the Free State Stadium.
Galatasaray later confirmed that the 26-year-old forward had suffered ankle ligament damage.
However, Gyan dismissed the injury claims, alleging it was a deliberate ploy to prioritize club commitments.
“I know these tricks. Someone might have told Osimhen, ‘We invested heavily in you, and with the Champions League coming up, we don’t want you risking yourself in Africa. Just pretend to be injured.’ The next day, you’ll be back in Türkiye,” Gyan was quoted as saying by Habersarikirmizi.
