The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has tracked 1,440 projects worth N271.054 billion across Nigeria’s North-East and North-West regions over the past two years.

ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Aliyu, disclosed this on Thursday during a one-day media engagement held at the Bristol Hotel in Kano. He revealed that 767 projects valued at N112.737 billion were identified in the North-East, while 673 projects worth N158.317 billion were tracked in the North-West.

Highlighting the role of citizens and journalists, Aliyu said many abandoned projects were brought to light through their reports, ensuring that funds reached the intended beneficiaries.

On recoveries, he stated that the commission reclaimed N7.269 billion and $1.066 million in the North-West, alongside N43.335 million in the North-East. Seized assets in the North-West included 14 buildings, 25 plots of land, and three farmlands.

Aliyu stressed that fighting corruption in both regions was key to promoting peace, trust, and development, while urging the National Assembly to hasten the passage of the Whistleblower Bill to protect citizens who expose corruption.

He also appealed to the media to support the anti-corruption drive through factual investigative journalism, avoiding sensationalism that could undermine public trust.
