As the All Progressives Congress (APC) prepares for its governorship primary election in Ekiti State, frontline aspirant, Engr. Kayode Olubunmi Ojo, has declared confidence in his chances of defeating incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji, insisting that his administration has little to show despite receiving over ₦500 billion in allocations and revenues within three years.

Speaking in Abuja on Thursday after submitting his expression of interest and nomination forms at the APC national secretariat, Ojo alleged that records between November 2022 and June 2025 showed that the state received ₦292.24 billion in federal allocations, ₦89.6 billion in internally generated revenue, and more than ₦150 billion in local government allocations, alongside federal interventions and loans.

“With such resources, Ekiti should have been transformed,” Ojo said. “But what do we have? No landmark projects, no national leaders invited for inaugurations, and not even the pride of hosting his daughter’s wedding in the state. There is nothing tangible to show for three years.”

Ojo, who is believed to enjoy strong grassroots support, dismissed suggestions that he is being propped up by the presidency. He pledged to implement full local government autonomy if elected, while promising to prioritise infrastructure, agriculture, education, and welfare for teachers, civil servants, and artisans.

“Our agenda is clear and people-oriented,” he stressed. “We will align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, unite APC members, address grievances, and ensure the prudent use of resources to develop Ekiti’s economy and upgrade Ado-Ekiti into a befitting state capital.”

Taking a swipe at Oyebanji, Ojo accused him of “propaganda without performance,” and vowed not to allow the party’s mandate to be hijacked. He also urged the APC national leadership to guarantee a level playing field at the October 27 primary, while calling on security agencies to ensure safety during campaigns.

He assured President Tinubu of his loyalty, stating: “With me as governor, Ekiti will be firmly secured for Mr. President’s re-election. This election is about a leader who can mobilise for reforms and deliver real change, not one who alienates the people through underperformance.”
