Guinness World Record holder and celebrity chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, popularly known as Hilda Baci, has revealed that more than 20,000 people have registered to attend her attempt to cook the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.

Baci made the disclosure in a video shared on her Instagram page on Wednesday, noting that the overwhelming response necessitated a change of venue.

According to her, the initial location, Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, which has a maximum capacity of 3,500, was too small to accommodate the massive turnout.

> “We put out a link for people to register to attend the event, and to my greatest surprise, over 20,000 people registered. Your safety and comfort are so important to us, and the venue we were going to use is not even enough to accommodate half that number,” she said.

To address the crowd size, Baci confirmed that the event has been moved to Eko Hotels and Suites, also on Victoria Island.

The world record attempt will take place on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 9 a.m., and entry remains free for all participants.

This event is completely free. You are not to pay for registration, and you are certainly not going to be paying for the amazing meal I am going to make for you. I cannot wait to see you there,” Baci assured.

The highly anticipated event is expected to draw massive attendance, adding to the chef’s growing list of culinary milestones.
