The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Abia State Chapter, has elected Bishop Dr. Newlife I.U of The Active Word Assembly (TAWA/COGIC) as its new chairman.
Bishop Newlife succeeds Bishop Chikezie Elekwa of Holyghost Bible Church, who had previously led the fellowship in the state.
The keenly contested election was held on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Holyghost Day Bible Church. Members of the fellowship across Abia State participated in the process, which was described as peaceful and transparent.
In his acceptance speech, Bishop Newlife expressed gratitude to the body for entrusting him with the responsibility and pledged to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor, while strengthening unity and advancing the mission of the PFN in the state.
Outgoing chairman, Bishop Elekwa, congratulated the new leader and urged the fellowship to give him maximum support in steering the affairs of the PFN to greater heights.
Clerics and delegates at the event hailed the outcome of the election as a sign of progress for the body, stressing that the new chairman’s wealth of experience and passion for evangelism would greatly benefit the Christian community in Abia State.
They also prayed for divine wisdom and guidance for Bishop Newlife as he assumes leadership at a time when the Church is expected to play a vital role in fostering peace, moral revival, and social development across the state.
