The Ogun State government has appointed 1,200 political assistants as part of its drive to deepen democratic participation and ensure wider access to the dividends of democracy.

In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the initiative was described as a strategic move to enhance governance and civic engagement across the state.

The assistants, selected at five per ward across the state’s 236 wards, are tasked with promoting grassroots involvement in governance, bridging the gap between communities and the state government. Their roles include identifying and communicating the needs of their wards to the government while also relaying government feedback and initiatives back to the people.

Akinmade noted that the appointments align with Governor Abiodun’s electoral pledge to run an inclusive government that values public input in policy formulation and implementation. He urged the new appointees to contribute meaningfully to the development of their wards, local councils, and the state at large.
