Some elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have pledged to mobilise massive support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Speaking under the banner of the Ondo State APC Elders Movement, the group’s Chairman, Senator Nimbe Farunkanmi, said the elders are determined to secure at least 1.5 million votes for Tinubu out of the state’s 1.9 million registered voters.

Farunkanmi, who addressed members during a meeting in Akure, said the elders were committed to ensuring that 90 percent of the votes in Ondo State go to the President. He stressed that similar mobilisation meetings would be held across local governments, wards, and polling units.

Another leader of the group, Mr. Jamiu Ekungba, explained that the initiative was aimed at overcoming voter apathy and rallying residents to participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He maintained that the 1.5 million-vote target was realistic, citing past electoral successes in the state.

Also speaking, Mrs. Olukemi Iyantan, Ondo State’s representative in the National Population Commission, noted that after the November 2024 governorship poll, attention would fully shift to the 2027 general election. She emphasised that the elders’ movement would foster unity and strengthen the party’s chances of securing victory for President Tinubu.
