NCDC Calls for Urgent Action as Lassa Fever Cases Rise in Nigeria

As cases of Lassa fever rise across Nigeria, the Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has urged state authorities to strengthen their response efforts to curb the spread of the disease. The NCDC has expressed concern over the increase in infections, particularly in the northern and southwestern regions, where the outbreak appears to be worsening.

The health agency emphasized the need for early detection, rigorous monitoring, and timely reporting to prevent further transmission. With the outbreak coinciding with the peak of the dry season, experts warn that the conditions are ideal for the virus, which is commonly transmitted by rats, to spread quickly in both urban and rural communities.

In response, the NCDC has dispatched teams to the most affected areas, working alongside state health officials to ensure that healthcare workers are equipped to deal with the growing number of cases. The agency has also called for heightened public awareness, especially regarding preventative measures such as proper sanitation and avoiding contact with rodents.

Experts suggest that swift intervention and coordinated efforts at all levels of government are critical to managing the outbreak and preventing a larger-scale health crisis. As of now, the NCDC continues to monitor the situation, providing regular updates and resources to support affected communities.
