Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has restated that his sole mission in politics is to restore the dignity of the people of Abia, warning that any public official caught in bribery or corruption under his administration will be dismissed without hesitation.
Governor Otti made the declaration during an unannounced visit to the Abayi District of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Aba, and later at the Living Word Ministries International, where he joined in celebrating the 50th wedding anniversary of the General Overseer, Bro. Emma Okorie, and his wife.
The Governor stressed that his administration’s guiding principle is dignity and integrity, not personal gain.
“What we have come to do in Abia is nothing other than restoring dignity. The only reason I contested elections is for the dignity of our people. It is not about money. If anybody tells you to bring money for anything, it is a lie. Whatever is due to you, you will get it without lobbying or bribing anybody,” he said.
Governor Otti noted that the recruitment of 5,394 teachers was based strictly on merit, with no financial inducement or favoritism. “Even those close to me were told to write the exam. If you passed, you were employed; if you didn’t, you were not considered. That is how it will always be,” he affirmed, drawing applause from worshippers.
He further declared that his administration would not apologize to those uncomfortable with his reforms. “Those who are not happy with what we are doing, we will not apologize. They have had their time. From now on, Abia is on the rise,” he asserted.
The Governor also announced that President Bola Tinubu would commission completed projects in Aba, including the reconstructed Port Harcourt Road and Ohanku Road, on October 3rd.
Commending him, Pastor Macaulay Nwosu of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church praised the Governor’s achievements in road construction, hospitals, schools, and regular payment of salaries, noting that members of his church benefitted from the recent teacher recruitment exercise free of bribery.
Similarly, Bro. Emma Okorie of the Living Word Ministries described Otti’s emergence as an answered prayer for Abia, thanking him for championing development and good governance.
Governor Otti congratulated the couple on their golden jubilee, noting that their marriage was an inspiring testimony for the younger generation. The event featured the cutting of the anniversary cake and thanksgiving prayers.
He was accompanied by members of the State House of Assembly, local government officials, and other top government functionaries.
