The House of Representatives has directed the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, to present a comprehensive breakdown of the ₦2.4 trillion recently disbursed to contractors handling federal projects across the country.

The directive followed confirmation from the Office of the Accountant-General that ₦2.4 trillion had been released, sparking concerns among lawmakers that the huge spending has not translated into tangible results. They cautioned contractors against presenting certificates for projects that exist only on paper.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who chairs the Ad Hoc Committee on Budget Implementation, issued a stern warning after a tense meeting with leaders of the Association of Indigenous Contractors of Nigeria. He stressed that Nigerians must see real results for the money spent, condemning fraudulent claims of completed hospitals and classrooms that remain non-functional.

While acknowledging the government’s commitment—bringing total disbursements to about ₦3.1 trillion including new approvals—Kalu insisted on transparency. The committee has demanded a verified spreadsheet from the Accountant-General to reconcile payments with contractors’ claims and pledged to uncover any discrepancies. A fresh review session has been scheduled for October 5, 2025.
