The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has announced that the Federal Government will mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day with a low-key celebration.
Speaking at a pre-independence press conference on Monday in Abuja, Idris said the events will be guided by the theme “All Hands on Deck.” He noted that activities began with Jummat prayers on Friday, followed by a thanksgiving service on Sunday.
As part of the programme, the Federal Government will unveil the National Value Charter, spearheaded by the National Orientation Agency (NOA). The charter serves as a framework to strengthen national pride and responsible citizenship, detailing the government’s commitment to values such as equality, freedom, democracy, entrepreneurship, and inclusivity under the “Nigerian Promise.”
It also introduces a Citizen’s Code, which emphasizes discipline, accountability, tolerance, environmental awareness, and resilience as duties of every Nigerian.
Other activities to mark the celebration include a national students’ debate aimed at engaging young people in nation-building discourse.
