The Abia State APC Renaissance Group has reacted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cancelled visit to Abia, alleging that Governor Alex Otti’s projects are “overpriced and underwhelming.”
According to the group, Otti has repeatedly invited President Tinubu to commission the 5.8-kilometer Port Harcourt Road in Aba, which the governor claims cost N36.5 billion. They noted that Heartland/Setraco Construction Company once bidded just N9 billion for the same project.
Critics argue the project, at over N6 billion per kilometer, ranks among the most expensive roads globally. They insist it would have been embarrassing for the President to personally commission it.
Villa insiders also revealed that President Tinubu’s decision to delegate a representative instead of attending may be linked to wider concerns, including Otti’s refusal to relocate to the Government House, alleged mismanagement of N54 billion for public school renovations, and poor welfare of Abia workers—some reportedly earning as low as N29,000 monthly despite higher federal allocations.
The APC group concluded that the projects lined up for commissioning fall short of the scale expected, given the increased revenues flowing into Abia following the removal of fuel subsidy.
