Prominent Nigerians on Friday paid their final respects to former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, who was laid to rest in Benin City. The burial followed a funeral mass at St. Paul Catholic Church, where family, friends, and colleagues gathered to celebrate his life.
Among the dignitaries present were Edo State Governor, represented by Deputy Governor Hon. Dennis Idahosa; Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri; Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi; and representatives of the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Andrew Obiyan urged the congregation to live purposeful lives rooted in faith, stressing that earthly titles hold little value compared to spiritual grace. Governor Diri described Arase as a patriot who served Nigeria with humility and professionalism.
Arase, who served as IGP from 2015 to 2016, died on August 31, 2025.
