The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has expressed deep concern over the vandalisation of vital signalling infrastructure along the Lagos–Ibadan Standard Gauge corridor, particularly between the Agege and Agbado stations.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, the Corporation revealed that unidentified individuals tampered with critical equipment, including the removal of signal machine cap protectors and the cutting of connection cables on Switch Point Machine No. 2. The sabotage was discovered during a routine inspection.
Unyimadu condemned the act as a deliberate attack on national infrastructure, warning that such actions could endanger the safety of passengers and staff. He, however, assured that train operations along the Lagos–Ibadan route remain unaffected despite the damage.
The NRC disclosed that security agencies have been alerted to investigate and apprehend those behind the vandalism. Reaffirming its commitment to safe and reliable rail services, the Corporation urged residents and communities along railway lines to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activity around railway facilities.
