A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina State, Hon. Abdulaziz Maituraka, has criticised opposition leaders for politicising security issues in the state, describing their comments as unfair and counterproductive.
Speaking at a meeting with APC supporters over the weekend, Maituraka said it was wrong for opposition figures to blame the state government for insecurity that existed long before the current administration took office.
The APC stalwart, who also serves as Special Adviser to the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, reminded critics that security is primarily the responsibility of the Federal Government, while state governments play supportive roles.
> “The issue of insecurity has been with us for years, even before the current administration came on board,” he said. “Some of those now criticising this government were once in power and benefited from the APC structure in the state. They should stop politicising insecurity. The state government is working tirelessly with all relevant stakeholders to improve the situation.”
Maituraka commended the Katsina State Government for its efforts in curbing banditry and restoring peace in several troubled communities, noting that significant progress had been recorded compared to previous years.
Recently appointed as Senior Special Adviser to Governor Dikko Radda on Public Mobilisation, Maituraka assured residents that the government would not relent until peace and stability are fully restored across the state.
He also expressed optimism that both President Bola Tinubu and Governor Radda would be re-elected in the next general elections, saying their people-focused policies would soon yield visible results.
> “It is normal for citizens to face challenges before experiencing relief. The current hardship will soon give way to progress as the policies of President Tinubu and Governor Radda begin to take full effect,” he said.
Maituraka urged APC members across the state to strengthen grassroots mobilisation and ensure they collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the next elections.
He reaffirmed that unity within the party remains crucial to sustaining the development agenda of both the state and federal governments.
