The Labour Party Candidates Forum (LPCF) has applauded the Supreme Court and the Federal High Court for their landmark judgments that removed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
In a press briefing held in Abuja, LPCF Chairman and the Labour Party’s 2023 Kogi State governorship candidate, Barr. Okeme Adejoh, hailed both courts for their “clear, unambiguous, and decisive” rulings, which he said have finally resolved the party’s prolonged leadership crisis.
Adejoh commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for upholding internal democracy by ceasing to recognise Abure following the expiration of his tenure.
He urged INEC to formally recognise Senator Nenadi Usman as Interim National Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Interim National Secretary, as appointed by the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC). According to him, the new leadership will oversee upcoming ward, local government, and state congresses, leading to a national convention.
“The forum congratulates Senators Nenadi Usman and Darlington Nwokocha for their victory in court and for their leadership in repositioning our great party ahead of the 2027 elections,” Adejoh said. He warned Abure to desist from distracting the party and to obey the court rulings.
Also speaking, LPCF Secretary and the Labour Party’s 2023 Ebonyi State governorship candidate, Comrade Splendour Oko Eze, criticised Abure for disregarding multiple court orders, describing such behaviour as a threat to Nigeria’s democracy.
“Judgments of Nigerian courts are meant to be obeyed,” Eze said. “Disobeying them breeds autocracy and tyranny. Abure’s tenure has long expired, and the courts have affirmed this. It’s time for him to move on.”
The LPCF called on all party members to unite behind the new leadership and work collectively to rebuild and strengthen the Labour Party ahead of future elections.
