Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has cautioned his successor, Governor Alex Otti, against taking credit for projects initiated and completed under his administration.
In a statement issued on Monday, Ikpeazu alleged that several infrastructural and developmental projects being showcased by the current administration as new achievements were actually conceived, funded, or completed during his tenure.
The former governor maintained that while it is the duty of every government to continue existing projects, fairness demands that due acknowledgment be given to previous administrations for their contributions.
“I have no problem with Governor Otti completing or commissioning projects started under my watch — that’s continuity. However, it is misleading and unfair to claim ownership of initiatives and programs that were conceptualized, funded, and executed before May 29, 2023,” Ikpeazu stated.
He further urged the present government to focus on delivering new developmental projects and addressing current challenges rather than “repackaging” past achievements for political validation.
Governor Otti’s media team has yet to issue a response to Ikpeazu’s remarks as of the time of filing this report.
