Former Senator representing Adamawa North, Ishaku Abbo, has called on political leaders and public office holders to invest in the mentorship and empowerment of young people, stressing that leadership is a continuous process that must involve the next generation.
In a weekend statement, Abbo emphasized that aides and young supporters currently working with political figures would eventually assume leadership positions in the future. He warned that neglecting them could have lasting consequences for the country’s political and social structure.
“These small boys and girls following us today will be followed by our children tomorrow. Connect them to the top. Their quality is the same quality they will put into your children tomorrow,” he said.
Abbo explained that leadership operates in a cyclical pattern, those serving today’s leaders will become tomorrow’s decision-makers, and future generations, including the children of current politicians, will depend on them.
He cautioned that failing to nurture young people amounts to destroying one’s legacy and political dynasty. “They carry your files, your children carry their files, and their children carry your children’s files. Endless cycle. Build the youth, build your dynasty,” Abbo added.
His remarks come amid increasing national discussions on youth inclusion, leadership succession, and sustainable governance in Nigeria.
