Abia Government Debunks Defection Rumour: Governor Alex Otti Remains Loyal to Labour Party

The Abia State Government has dismissed as false and malicious the reports circulating on social media alleging that Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement, the government described the claim as a baseless fabrication orchestrated by political detractors unsettled by Governor Otti’s steady record of good governance and his rising popularity across political divides. It urged the public to disregard the story, calling it a deliberate attempt to mislead Abians and create unnecessary tension.

Governor Otti, the statement reaffirmed, remains a proud and devoted member of the Labour Party — the platform on which Abians overwhelmingly elected him. His commitment, it noted, is unwaveringly directed towards rebuilding Abia, ensuring transparency, and delivering tangible dividends of democracy to all citizens.

Reiterating his stance during the recent October edition of “Governor Alex Otti Speaks to Abians,” the Governor made it clear that his focus is on service and the transformation of Abia State, not political maneuvering or party defections. His administration, the statement added, continues to advance a clear vision built on accountability, infrastructure renewal, economic growth, youth empowerment, and the restoration of public trust — principles deeply rooted in Labour Party values.

The government therefore urged the public to ignore the rumour and view it as a cheap propaganda ploy by those threatened by the ongoing progress in Abia State. It assured Abians that Governor Alex Otti remains steadfast in his mission to build a new Abia founded on truth, equity, and justice under the banner of the Labour Party.
