Opposition Party Faults Tinubu Government Over Alleged Ransom Tactics, Seeks Transparency

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticised the administration of Bola Tinubu over claims that ransom payments may have been used to secure the release of kidnapped victims in parts of the country.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, the opposition party described the alleged practice as dangerous and counterproductive, arguing that it could further embolden criminal groups and worsen Nigeria’s security challenges.

The PDP expressed concern over reports suggesting that large sums of money may have been exchanged in efforts to free abducted individuals, insisting that such actions, if true, would contradict existing laws that prohibit ransom payments.

According to the party, yielding to kidnappers’ demands risks strengthening criminal networks and encouraging more abductions, rather than addressing the root causes of insecurity.

It also urged the federal government to provide clarity on the allegations and adopt more effective strategies to combat kidnapping and terrorism across the country.

While authorities have denied any involvement in ransom payments, maintaining that security operations led to recent rescues, the PDP maintained that transparency is necessary to restore public confidence.

The party called for stricter enforcement of anti-terrorism laws and improved coordination among security agencies to tackle the growing threat of abductions nationwide.
