Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his administration’s substantial investment in healthcare infrastructure aimed at strengthening medical services in Kano State.

Barau made the commendation on Sunday during an inspection of seven mega healthcare projects he facilitated at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH).

The senator representing Kano North explained that the projects were conceived in alignment with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for improved healthcare delivery. He noted that the ongoing interventions would help reduce medical tourism and enhance the nation’s capacity to provide world-class medical treatment locally.

“What we are witnessing today is in line with the President’s commitment to establishing a sound and specialised healthcare system,” Barau said. “With these investments, Nigerians will no longer need to travel abroad for treatment. We have the expertise and human resources to make our hospitals globally competitive.”

He reaffirmed the National Assembly’s readiness to enact laws supporting the executive’s drive to revamp the health sector and other critical areas.

The senator added that the projects would foster human capital development and stem the migration of medical professionals abroad. “This is just the beginning,” he said. “Our goal is to make AKTH not only the best in Nigeria but in West Africa.”

The Chief Medical Director of AKTH, Prof. Abdurrahman Abba Sheshe, praised Senator Barau’s efforts, describing the projects as vital to strengthening research, training, and innovation in medicine.

Similarly, the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano (BUK), Prof. Haruna Musa, commended the lawmaker for his contributions, revealing that within two months of his assumption of office, Barau had brought two major projects to the university.

The seven projects include:

Construction and equipping of a cardiothoracic centre

Road construction at the College of Health Sciences, BUK (AKTH premises)

Construction of a students’ hostel at the College of Nursing Sciences

Interlocking works at the Department of Radiology, S.S. Wali Centre, and Speciality Clinic Annexe

Construction of classrooms and offices at the School of Health Information Management (SHIM)

Construction and equipping of a paediatric complex

Senator Barau was accompanied during the visit by Senators Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila (Petroleum Downstream), Muntari Dandutse (Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND), Babangida Hussaini (North West Development Commission), and Abdulhamid Malam-Madori (Police Affairs).
