In a symbolic and inspiring gesture, Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday temporarily handed over his office to 14-year-old Joy Ogah, a passionate advocate for girl-child education, allowing her to serve as “Vice President for a Day.”

The initiative highlights the Tinubu administration’s dedication to education and the empowerment of young girls across Nigeria. During her brief but impactful tenure, Ogah addressed the nation, calling for inclusive education, protection of girls’ rights, and improved school facilities such as sanitation and nutrition programs. “When girls are protected, peace becomes possible,” she declared.

Ogah further noted, “I may be Vice President for a day, but the struggles I represent cannot end in a day. They must continue in our policies, our classrooms, our conversations, and our budgets.”

Vice President Shettima, before symbolically passing on the mantle, reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to advancing girl-child education. He cited initiatives like the school feeding program and lauded First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her advocacy and contributions to female empowerment during her tenure in the Senate.

The event took place during a meeting between Shettima and a delegation from PLAN International, led by Helen Mfonobong Idiong, aimed at strengthening efforts toward girl-child education in Nigeria. The organization has already supported over 11 million Nigerian children through interventions in education and entrepreneurship.

Joy Ogah’s one-day leadership experience sends a powerful message about the importance of sustained investment in the education and empowerment of Nigerian girls, inspiring leaders and citizens alike to keep championing their cause.
