The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences (FUTES), Iyin Ekiti, Professor Gbenga Aribisala, has reiterated the institution’s dedication to producing graduates who will place Nigeria on the global stage through technological innovation and academic excellence.

Speaking at an event in Ado Ekiti on Monday, Aribisala emphasised the university’s readiness to collaborate with individuals, groups, and organisations to drive technological growth and national development. He noted that the institution had already begun laying the groundwork for meaningful advancements in science and technology and urged stakeholders to support its vision.

Highlighting the university’s curriculum, the VC explained that FUTES was structured to train students who are innovation-driven rather than solely focused on white-collar jobs. According to him, the university offers specialised programmes in Robotics, Cybersecurity, Software Engineering, Data Science, and Mechatronics, alongside conventional courses, to equip students for the modern world.

Aribisala also appealed to philanthropists and corporate bodies to support the university’s infrastructure development by building hostels, lecture halls, and other facilities, promising recognition and partnership in return. He reaffirmed the institution’s mission to create knowledge, promote academic excellence, and contribute significantly to Nigeria’s technological advancement.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier, on February 20, 2025, signed into law two bills establishing FUTES in Iyin Ekiti and the Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies in Iragbiji, Osun State. According to Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga, the new universities aim to meet Nigeria’s educational needs while promoting research, innovation, and economic growth. Senator Binta Garba was subsequently appointed as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairperson of FUTES Governing Council in March.
