The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has been elected as the new President of the Nigerian Boxing Federation (NBF).
Edun, a seasoned economist and passionate advocate for sports development, emerged unopposed after securing all 12 votes during the NBF elections held on Saturday at the Package B Indoor Sports Hall of the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
In his acceptance speech, Edun pledged to introduce far-reaching reforms and structural improvements aimed at revitalizing boxing in Nigeria and positioning it for greater international success.
Meanwhile, the contest for the vice-presidential seat was closely fought, as Hon. Omonlei Imadu, representing the South-West zone, defeated North Central’s Mighty Mike by eight votes to four. Imadu, known for his extensive grassroots boxing initiatives, lauded Edun’s emergence, describing it as “a new dawn for Nigerian boxing.” He vowed to work hand-in-hand with the new president and other board members to actualize Edun’s vision for the sport.
Imadu also commended the National Sports Commission, led by Chairman Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade, for conducting a transparent, fair, and credible election process that upheld the integrity of the federation.
