Security operatives in Imo State have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate believed to be responsible for a wave of abductions across the South-East.

The suspects were apprehended in Rivers State following a targeted operation by law enforcement agencies tracking their movements across state lines. Investigators say the group allegedly extorted large sums from victims’ families, with reports indicating that some captives were not released even after payments were made.

The arrested individuals were later presented to the public in Owerri, where officials displayed weapons recovered during the operation. The items included assault rifles, locally made guns, and a cache of ammunition.

Authorities described the syndicate as highly organized, noting that its activities spanned multiple states and posed a serious security threat. They added that ongoing intelligence efforts are focused on uncovering other members and collaborators linked to the network.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening security operations and curbing violent crime in the region, urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
