The Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Vanguard for Good Governance has called on former House of Representatives member, Hon. Nkiru Onyejeocha, to focus on addressing her alleged forgery case in court rather than sponsoring attacks against the duly elected representative, Hon. Amobi Godwin Ogah.
In a statement issued on Monday, the group accused individuals loyal to Mrs. Onyejeocha of “exhibiting frustration and bitterness” by continually casting aspersions on Hon. Ogah, who currently represents the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.
The group noted that since her defeat in the 2023 general election, Mrs. Onyejeocha’s influence in the constituency has “dwindled sharply,” adding that the people of Isuikwuato and Umunneochi have since moved on with a representative who has brought visible development and effective leadership to the area.
“After sixteen years in office, it is understandable that facing political retirement is not easy. But it is disappointing that rather than move on, she has resorted to dragging Hon. Ogah from one court to another in a desperate bid to distract him,” the statement read.
The Vanguard highlighted that under Hon. Ogah’s leadership, the constituency has witnessed tangible progress, citing ongoing projects such as modern market constructions, rural roads, healthcare facilities, scholarships, study grants, and several legislative initiatives. These, they said, reaffirm the people’s confidence in their decision during the 2023 polls, a choice they believe will be reaffirmed in 2027.
Expressing concern over the ongoing forgery case involving Mrs. Onyejeocha, the group urged her to “face her legal battles squarely” and allow justice to take its course.
According to the statement, “Forgery is a serious offence under Section 467 of the Nigerian Criminal Code Act, which prescribes up to three years imprisonment for anyone found guilty. No one is above the law, and the people of Isuikwuato/Umunneochi deserve leaders of integrity.”
The Vanguard concluded by advising the former lawmaker to “cease the media theatrics” and prepare to defend herself in court, warning that “crying by proxy through faceless groups will not alter the course of justice.”
