The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed widespread rumours of a planned disturbance on the Third Mainland Bridge, assuring residents that there is no cause for alarm.

In a statement released on Monday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the police confirmed awareness of online reports suggesting that some youths in the Oworonshoki area were planning to disrupt movement on the bridge. Adebisi said the Command had taken proactive measures to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of all commuters.

“The Lagos State Police Command is aware of information circulating on social media regarding an alleged plan to disrupt movement around the Oworonshoki section of the Third Mainland Bridge,” the statement read. “We have fully deployed our personnel to guarantee the safety of road users and prevent any breach of peace.”

The police urged Lagos residents to go about their normal activities without fear, stressing that officers were strategically positioned to respond swiftly to any threats.

The reassurance follows growing public concern triggered by viral messages warning of potential unrest or traffic disruption along the bridge, one of the busiest links between the Mainland and the Island.

Meanwhile, the Command refuted claims that its officers attacked residents during a recent demolition exercise in the Oworonshoki area, describing such reports as “false and mischievous.”

“The Lagos State Police Command wishes to clarify that allegations of armed officers attacking residents during the government’s demolition exercise are entirely untrue,” the statement said. “Police personnel were only deployed to maintain peace and order during the Lagos State Government’s lawful urban renewal operation.”

Reiterating its commitment to protecting lives and property, the Command assured the public that it would continue to uphold its constitutional duty to preserve peace and support lawful government activities across Lagos State.
