The All Progressives Congress (APC) has vowed to end the 19-year rule of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State, declaring its readiness to take over power in the November 8, 2025 governorship election.
Speaking at the party’s campaign rally in Onitsha on Friday, the APC National Chairman, Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, expressed confidence that the ruling party in the state would be defeated. The event was held at the All Saints Anglican Cathedral, where Yilwatda described the APC as “a messenger of hope” for the people of Anambra.
> “The APC will uproot APGA in the next eight days and 196 hours to the governorship election. We cannot allow APGA to continue governing such an important state as an adopted son when we have our own son in the person of Nicholas Ukachukwu,” he said.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, who was also present at the rally, said the APC was determined to win Anambra and make it the 25th APC-controlled state in Nigeria.
The party’s governorship candidate, Nicholas Ukachukwu, pledged to replace what he described as APGA’s “deceitful nonperformance” with a government focused on security, industrial growth, power stability, and agricultural development.
> “We will soon replace insecurity, multiple taxation, corruption, and nonperformance with adequate security, stable power supply, industrial expansion, and agricultural value chains,” Ukachukwu said.
Also speaking, Imo State Governor and Chairman of the APC Governors’ Forum, Hope Uzodinma, assured voters that their ballots would count, urging them to trust the electoral process.
The APC State Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike, and Ikemba Front National Coordinator, Arinze Awogu, in their remarks, expressed optimism that the party would finally occupy the Government House in Agu-Awka after years in opposition.
Meanwhile, Anambra State Governor and APGA candidate, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, dismissed the APC’s late campaign flag-off, describing it as a sign of unseriousness.
Speaking at an APGA rally in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area, Soludo mocked the APC for starting its campaign barely a week to the polls.
> “It’s shocking and laughable for a major party like the APC to begin its campaign just seven days before the election. Their candidate is only in the race for cheap popularity,” Soludo said.
He urged residents to turn out massively on election day, collect any inducement money offered, but vote wisely to retain APGA in power.
> “I have no competitor in this governorship race. What you’ve seen in the past three years under my administration speaks for itself. We will win again — but only if we all come out and vote,” he declared confidently.
