Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has backed the suspension of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Umar Damagun, predicting that he will leave the party like his predecessor, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti on Sunday, Fayose accused Damagun of incompetence and manipulation, claiming he “stole” the position and lacked the leadership capacity to unite the party.
“This is how the Ayu crisis began, and Damagun will go the same way,” Fayose said. “He won’t return as chairman because he was never supposed to be one in the first place.”
Fayose congratulated the newly announced acting national chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Abdurrahman, describing him as a unifying figure capable of restoring stability to the PDP. He urged him to “reposition the party, correct the wrongs in state chapters, and prepare for a proper convention.”
He further stressed that Damagun’s suspension followed due process and expressed confidence that the courts would affirm Abdurrahman’s leadership.
On the crisis within the South West PDP, Fayose accused certain governors of attempting to control all state chapters without allowing proper congresses, warning that such actions undermine the party’s constitution and peace efforts.
