Top amateur golfers and aspiring professionals are set to compete in the 64th Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship, sponsored by FirstBank, beginning on November 17.

The tournament, played over 54 holes, is a World Amateur Golf Ranking event sanctioned by the R&A and USGA, attracting elite amateur golfers from Nigeria and across the globe. Over the years, participants have come from South Africa, Kenya, and other West African countries, highlighting the event’s growing international appeal.

As Nigeria’s longest-running amateur golf championship, the Lagos Open has become a breeding ground for future professional golfers. Notable past winners include Kenyan Samuel Njoroge, who claimed the 57th edition at Ikoyi in 2018 and now competes on the European Tour, as well as Nigerian professionals Andrew Odoh, Willy Gift, and Monday Eze.

FirstBank, the tournament’s primary sponsor, has been instrumental in promoting golf in Nigeria, helping elevate the Lagos Amateur Open to global recognition. The sponsorship reflects the bank’s long-standing commitment to sports development, community building, and enhancing engagement through its First@Sports platform.

Hameed Adenekan will enter the championship as the defending champion.
