Two months after his expulsion from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, the member representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, has officially rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His return ends weeks of speculation about his renewed relationship with the ruling party and his close ties with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, despite his previous loyalty to NNPP leader, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Speaking to a large crowd of supporters in his hometown of Kofa on Monday, Jibrin described his return to the APC as a “calculated decision” aimed at correcting past political missteps. He vowed to rally his supporters out of the NNPP and ensure a decisive victory for President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

Earlier in the day, Jibrin hosted about 2,000 Islamic clerics from his constituency to offer special prayers for President Tinubu, as well as for peace and development in Kano State and Nigeria at large.

Following the rally, the former Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation shared a video on his verified social media page showing jubilant supporters celebrating his comeback to the APC and declaring their support for Tinubu’s second-term bid.

“Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents in Kofa, Bebeji, Kano. The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office,” Jibrin wrote.

Jibrin, who previously served as spokesperson to the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, was instrumental in early efforts to facilitate Kwankwaso’s possible return to the APC.

He had earlier met with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, pledging to convince Kwankwaso to reunite with the ruling party. However, the plan met resistance from certain APC leaders in Kano, who reportedly opposed the reconciliation move.

Jibrin’s involvement eventually led to disciplinary action from the NNPP, which expelled him over alleged anti-party activities and non-payment of dues. Accepting his expulsion, he vowed to pursue his political goals elsewhere, a promise now fulfilled with his return to the APC.
