The Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) has called on industrial and commercial organisations with high energy consumption to subscribe to its Eligible Customer Programme, enabling them to purchase electricity directly from NDPHC and other generation companies.

In a statement on Sunday, NDPHC explained that the programme, initially launched in 2017 and updated in 2024, offers businesses a reliable, stable, and affordable electricity supply. Eligible participants can access between six and 20 megawatts of power, with approved customers benefiting from flexible pricing, negotiated energy tariffs, and enhanced supply reliability.

“With over 2,000MW of unused power capacity, NDPHC is intensifying efforts to optimise its generation assets by selling power directly to bulk users. This initiative is crucial for addressing liquidity challenges and promoting industrial growth,” the statement said.

Managing Director/CEO Jennifer Adighije described the programme as a strategic tool to strengthen Nigeria’s industrial competitiveness. “The Eligible Customer Programme guarantees efficient and affordable electricity from our plants to businesses. Phoenix Steel Mills demonstrates how stable power boosts productivity, reduces costs, and strengthens economic value chains,” she said.

Adighije also noted that NDPHC is exploring embedded and bilateral power solutions to reach customers where the national grid cannot, stressing the need to reduce reliance on the centralised electricity market, which faces persistent revenue and liquidity challenges.

“To counter these issues, we are gradually shifting towards bilateral power sales, targeting large, creditworthy customers under the NERC framework. By establishing direct power agreements at cost-reflective tariffs, we aim to enhance revenue, improve liquidity, and shield the company from inefficiencies in the centralised market,” she added.
