Golf enthusiasts are gearing up for the 64th Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship, scheduled from Monday, November 17, to Sunday, November 23, 2025, with competitors vying for a total prize pool of N35 million and a BMW X4.

At a press conference on Wednesday at the Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Section, organisers confirmed that the tournament, sponsored by First Bank of Nigeria, will host a mix of amateur and aspiring professional golfers from across the country.

Akinwunmi Akintola, Chairman of Ikoyi Club 1938, described the championship as “one of the most enduring and prestigious events in the club’s history,” praising First Bank for its long-standing support. He highlighted the strong partnership between the club and the bank, founded on shared values of integrity, excellence, and community service, recalling past initiatives such as the donation of an ambulance.

“First Bank’s support ensures that this great event continues to grow in both stature and impact,” Akintola added.

Abiona Babarinde, Marketing General Manager at Coscharis Motors, explained the company’s involvement, saying the partnership aims to create unique experiences for their joint clientele by blending the excitement of golf with Coscharis’ globally respected car brands. “BMW, in particular, aligns perfectly with the spirit of golf,” Babarinde noted. He confirmed that a BMW X4 will be among the prizes, and that attendees will have the opportunity to test drive vehicles from all Coscharis brands during the tournament.

Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at First Bank, reflected on the event’s legacy, describing it as more than just a championship. “It is a celebration of tradition, focus, discipline, and sportsmanship,” he said, emphasizing the bank’s commitment to creating opportunities for the next generation of golfers.

The championship is expected to attract over 200 golfers with handicaps ranging from zero to nine. The week-long event will feature various competitions, including a Caddy’s Competition, the Championship Kitty, a Corporate Golf Challenge for Charity, and professional coaching clinics. Saturday’s round will include a cut-off to ensure smooth scheduling, while Sunday’s final round will pair high-net-worth individuals, First Bank clients, and other partners with professional golfers.

The first-place winner will receive N10 million from the N35 million prize pool, and a charity event on Thursday will benefit a selected home, announced on the day. With competitive play, professional engagement, leisure activities, and vehicle test drives, the tournament promises to remain a marquee event on Nigeria’s golfing calendar.
