The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State is engulfed in a deepening crisis as 35 party chapter chairmen and secretaries staged a protest on Wednesday, blocking the party’s state secretariat in Calabar to demand the resignation of state chairman Alphonsus Eba.

The protesters carried placards accusing Eba of arrogance, mismanagement, and a lack of transparency in party affairs. Some of the messages read: “Okadigbo must go,” “The party can’t be starving while you are living large,” and “We are tired of your insolence and arrogance.” Others included: “APC Cross River deserves a leader, not a ruler and terror,” and “For the interest of the party, you are advised to throw in the towel.”

At the time of reporting, no member of the APC State Working Committee had engaged the demonstrators, who had blocked access to the secretariat.

The protest follows a communiqué issued on Tuesday by 18 chapter chairmen and 17 secretaries, represented by High Chief Kelvin Njong, calling for Eba’s immediate resignation due to a loss of confidence in his leadership and alleged withholding of their three-month stipends.

The group also accused Eba of unequal allocation of party funds, misappropriation of nomination form proceeds, and acts of incitement. Eba, however, denied the claims, stating that stipends were paid directly to ward executives, with payments to chapter chairmen temporarily withheld pending an internal investigation.
