President Bola Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement, Abiodun Essiet, has met with Plateau-based cleric Ezekiel Dachomo and leaders of Miyetti Allah as part of ongoing efforts to promote peace and reconciliation in the state.
According to a statement by Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga on Sunday, Essiet was sent to Plateau State as a peace envoy. During her two-day visit, she met Dachomo, who is the regional chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi, as well as traditional rulers, community heads, and representatives of Miyetti Allah.
Discussions focused on how religious and community leaders can promote unity, peaceful coexistence, and social development in the state.
Essiet also met widows and delivered President Tinubu’s message on the importance of ethnic reconciliation. She later held talks with Fulani leaders in Barkin Ladi aimed at improving dialogue between herders and farming communities.
The presidential aide conducted a workshop in Jos on establishing a community peace structure across all 17 Local Government Areas in the state. She also held a closed-door session with the Irigwe community, Miyetti Allah members, and youth leaders from Bassa LGA to strengthen the work of the 17-member peace committee.
Onanuga noted that Essiet reaffirmed President Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive governance and long-term stability in the North Central region.
One immediate result of her engagement was the peaceful resolution of a dispute in Jos South, where farmer David Toma had seized two cows after his farm was allegedly damaged by herders.
