The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a 24-year-old suspected cultist, Sulaimon Laja, accused of terrorising residents of the Igbesa community in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
The suspect, reportedly a member of the Aiye confraternity, attempted to evade arrest by disguising himself. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued from Abeokuta, the state capital, on Tuesday.
According to Odutola, upon spotting Laja in disguise, police immediately arrested him and proceeded to his hideout. There, a search uncovered a serviceable single-barreled gun believed to have been used in criminal activities.
“The suspect has confessed to cult-related offenses and provided information on other members, some of whom are currently at large,” Odutola stated. “A manhunt has been launched for the fleeing members to ensure their swift arrest.”
She praised the Divisional Police Officer of Igbesa for the successful operation, noting that the command continues to make significant progress in reducing cult-related crimes across the state.
The suspect and the recovered firearm have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution. Odutola reaffirmed the police’s commitment to restoring peace and public confidence in all communities across Ogun State.
