Nigeria’s oldest cricket league and one of West Africa’s longest-running competitions, the Club Cricket Committee (CCC) Lagos league, is set to introduce the 50-over One Day International format in the 2025/26 season, which kicks off this weekend.
The 39th season of CCC Lagos begins on Saturday, November 22, with two Division One matches at the University of Lagos Cricket Oval. The Premier Division is slated to start on December 6 at the Tafawa Balewa Square Oval.
Founded in 1987 as a four-club tournament, the league has grown into a 22-team competition across two divisions. The Premier Division comprises nine clubs, while Division One includes 14 teams split evenly into Leagues A and B.
Ahead of the new season, CCC Lagos Chairman and former Yellow Greens captain, Endurance Ofem, shared his excitement about integrating the 50-over format alongside the traditional T20 matches. “This season will start with a T20 tournament; we are in discussions to introduce the 50-over tournament, which will be scheduled on specific days between the T20 fixtures,” Ofem said. “We expect around 120 games across both formats, with 99 matches planned for T20 alone.”
To manage the expanded schedule, matches will be played across three venues: Tafawa Balewa Square, the University of Lagos Oval, and CMS Grammar School. Division One fixtures will be held at UNILAG and CMS Grammar School, while the Premier Division matches will take place at TBS and UNILAG.
In Division One, the top two teams from each league will compete in a Super 4, with the best two sides earning promotion to the Premier Division. The Premier Division champion will be decided through a Super 6 playoff, while the bottom two teams will face relegation. Last season, Rising Stars Cricket Club and Rocks of Abeokuta were crowned champions of the Premier Division and Division One, respectively.
