Tinubu Sends Three New Ambassadorial Nominees for Senate Approval

President Bola Tinubu has sent the names of three non-career ambassadorial nominees to the Nigerian Senate for screening and confirmation, marking the first such submission since he took office in 2023.

The nominees are Kayode Aare from Ogun State, Aminu Dalhatu from Jigawa State, and Ayodele Oke from Oyo State.

During Wednesday’s plenary session, Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the president’s letter and referred the names to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, instructing the committee to report back within a week.

This move comes after nearly two years without appointed envoys, following the recall of Nigeria’s ambassadors in September 2023 — a development that had been criticized for weakening the country’s international presence and stalling operations at its foreign missions.
