The federal government has terminated five significant road contracts in Kogi State after persistent delays and substandard work. Among the affected projects are critical stretches of the Abuja–Lokoja highway, which have shown very little progress despite considerable time and funding.
An assessment by the Federal Ministry of Works indicated that some of the projects had only reached 1–2% completion, exposing major shortcomings in project management. Contractors consistently failed to meet deadlines and deliverables, prompting the government to take decisive action.
Officials stated that the contract cancellations are aimed at promoting accountability and ensuring the effective use of public funds. The move is intended to prevent further waste and safeguard the quality and integrity of national infrastructure projects.
Motorists and commuters have been urged to remain patient as the government reassigns the projects and implements steps to guarantee their completion. The ministry assured the public that alternative arrangements will be made to reduce disruptions.
