The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Akwa Ibom State has distributed starter packs to inmates nearing release, aiming to support their reintegration into society.
The programme targets inmates who have completed vocational training in areas such as tailoring, barbing, carpentry, welding, and laundry services. The starter packs include tools and materials relevant to their trades, enabling them to start small businesses upon release.
This initiative is part of the NCoS’s broader rehabilitation mandate, focusing on equipping inmates with practical skills to enhance their chances of becoming productive and self-reliant citizens.
Officials and advocates have encouraged communities to support former inmates, stressing the importance of providing opportunities that help them reintegrate successfully and avoid returning to criminal activities.
