Two rival factions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are trading counter‑disclaimers, with each claiming the other has been expelled, deepening the party’s internal crisis.
The faction led by Nyesom Wike stated that the group loyal to Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has been expelled for “false representation.” In response, the Turaki‑led wing issued a notice declaring that Wike is no longer permitted to act or speak for the party, effectively expelling him.
Wike’s camp accused the Turaki faction of “embarrassing misrepresentation,” asserting that the expulsions carried out during a recent convention were illegitimate. They pointed out that the purported national convention in Ibadan did not comply with court rulings, rendering its decisions invalid.
As the standoff escalates, both sides are warning the public not to recognize the other’s members or leadership claims. The conflicting statements highlight the deepening schism in the PDP ahead of critical political contests.
