Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso didn’t hold back after his side’s 2–0 home defeat to Celta Vigo, sharply criticizing the referee who oversaw the match.
Alonso said the match official’s calls “drove us crazy,” pointing especially to the red card shown to Álvaro Carreras — a decision he described as “something he was clearly looking for.” He also argued that the referee allowed Celta to waste time and repeatedly halted play without ever warning them.
The defeat at the Santiago Bernabéu saw Real finish the match with nine men after expulsions for both Carreras and Fran García — compounding the blow from an earlier injury to Éder Militao.
Alonso admitted the night was not what the team had hoped for, but urged his players to regroup quickly, with a big match looming against Manchester City in the Champions League. Still, he left no doubt over where he believes blame lies, accusing the referee of botching the officiating of the game.
