As part of its commitment to sustainable development, Governor Alex Otti is set to officially unveil the Abia State 25-Year Development Plan on Tuesday, 16th December 2025. The long-term roadmap is a flagship initiative of the current administration, aimed at ensuring economic stability, infrastructural growth, social progress, and generational prosperity for Abia State well into the middle of the century.
The plan is built around six strategic pillars: people and resources, growth and stability, sustainable economy, social infrastructure and inclusion, governance and reform, and cross-sector linkages. Its implementation is designed to foster an inclusive economy by leveraging local potential, attracting global investment, and developing a modern, climate-resilient state powered by clean energy, digital connectivity, and robust institutions that guarantee transparency, citizen participation, peace, and security.
In parallel, the 2nd Abia International Trade Fair will hold on Tuesday, 9th December at the Trade Fair Grounds. All 17 local government areas have secured stands to display locally made products alongside SMEs, further cementing Aba’s reputation as Abia’s commercial hub.
Significant strides are also being made in the health sector. Partnerships driven by the Otti administration have reportedly saved over N2.5 billion in healthcare costs, involving organizations such as Revive Belgium, ProHealth, Olusegun Obasanjo Foundation, Living Hope Foundation, and NDDC. The Abia Global Medical Mission is scheduled from 15th to 18th December to provide vital medical outreach services.
The Project Ekwueme initiative has now operationalized 81 of 102 targeted primary health centres, with the remainder slated for completion next year. The second phase of the Maternal and Child Birth Programme will also begin on 9th December, in collaboration with the Office of the First Lady, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Women Affairs, and the Primary Health Care Development Agency. Additionally, a vector surveillance laboratory for malaria research is being established at Ogbennaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba.
In the technology and innovation sector, the week features the Startathon Hackathon at the UNDP-supported Unipod, Michael Okpara University. Highlights include the launch of the Abia Technology Startup Law and the unveiling of the Abia Agricultural Dynamic Database System (Abia ADDS), designed to revolutionize data-driven agriculture and drive innovation across the value chain.
Addressing public concerns about reported incidents along the Owerrinta-Airport Road, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, stated that these reports remain unverified. He reassured residents that the Otti administration remains fully committed to protecting lives and property, particularly during the festive season.
Through these initiatives, Abia State continues to build a stable, prosperous, technology-driven, and health-secured future. The administration emphasizes that the state’s transformation is underway—and its prospects are bright.
