The Abia State Government has dismissed recent reports alleging hijackings and kidnappings along the Owerrinta–Airport road, describing the claims as unverified and not to be treated as confirmed security intelligence.
Speaking to journalists on Monday at the Government House in Umuahia, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, stated that there is no official confirmation of the alleged incidents. He urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unsubstantiated information that could cause unnecessary panic.
Ekeoma emphasized that Governor Alex Otti’s administration remains fully committed to protecting lives and property, particularly as residents and visitors prepare to celebrate the yuletide season. He noted that security measures have been strengthened across strategic locations to ensure safe movement and peaceful festivities.
The statement followed this week’s Executive Council meeting, presided over by Governor Otti, where holiday safety and broader security concerns were key discussion points.
