The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has yet to release the findings of its internal investigation into allegations that senior officers of the Anambra State Police Command were involved in organ harvesting and other serious crimes, more than two years after a panel concluded its probe.
The accusations first emerged in 2023 via a whistle-blower, claiming that high-ranking officers were engaged in extrajudicial killings, kidnapping, extortion, and harvesting human organs.
A special investigation panel was established by the NPF, which reportedly submitted its report in early 2023. However, neither the report nor any follow-up actions, such as arrests or prosecutions, have been made public.
Civil society groups have expressed outrage, urging the authorities to convene an independent inquiry, arguing that the failure to publish the report reflects a troubling pattern of impunity within the police. Meanwhile, the whistle-blower remains incarcerated despite court orders granting him bail, with multiple civil-society groups warning of attempts on his life.
