Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has said the overwhelming support that greeted the announcement of his victory in the 2023 governorship election continues to inspire confidence that his administration will not fail the people. The governor made the declaration on Tuesday, December 9, while receiving the Apostolic Nuncio to Nigeria, His Grace, Most Rev. Michael Francis Crotty, at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Government House, Umuahia.
Reflecting on the scenes that followed his election victory, Governor Otti said the unity and goodwill shown by people across religious and political lines reinforced his belief that the administration carries a collective mandate for success. He stressed that his government remains committed to fairness and inclusivity, adding that all citizens are treated equally regardless of faith, tribe, or political affiliation.
The governor also thanked the Catholic Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, Most Rev. Michael Kalu Ukpong, for preparing 15 young men for ordination as deacons and pledged his support for the ceremony. He extended warm greetings to the Pope and to Abia-born Archbishop Fortunatus Nwanchukwu, whom he described as a close kinsman and spiritual supporter of his political journey.
In his remarks, the Apostolic Nuncio, who was on his first visit to Abia State, disclosed that his trip was connected to the ordination of the 15 deacons and the silver jubilee dedication of the Mater Dei Cathedral. He commended the cordial relationship between the state government and the Catholic Church and expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded him. Church officials, government commissioners, and senior aides to the governor were among dignitaries present at the event.
