The newly elected President of the All Africa Students Union (AASU), Comrade Osisiogu Enyinnaya, has credited his emergence as the first Nigerian to hold the position to the transformative achievements of Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti. He made this known on Wednesday, December 10th, during a courtesy visit to the governor alongside other newly elected AASU officials.
Comrade Enyinnaya explained that Governor Otti’s reforms, especially in the education sector, played a significant role in shaping his campaign across Africa. He highlighted the state’s plans to provide accommodation for nearly 20,000 students in the 2026 budget, the relocation of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic to its permanent site, and ongoing upgrades at Abia State University. He also noted Abia’s ambitious investment in modern educational programmes, including cyber security and artificial intelligence.
Expressing pride in the progress recorded in his home state, the AASU President-elect thanked Governor Otti for the administration’s achievements over the past 30 months. He said the governor’s commitment to educational development enabled him to confidently advocate for stronger education financing across African countries during his campaign tours.
In his response, Governor Otti reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to its education-driven agenda, noting that the state has consistently allocated 20% of its annual budget to the sector in the last two years. He stressed that education remains central to Abia’s development vision, citing recent interventions in tertiary institutions, including urgent improvements at Abia State University hostels. The governor congratulated Comrade Enyinnaya and assured him of the state’s support as he begins his tenure.
