The Osun State Government has officially confirmed that armed bandits attacked Ora‑Igbomina, a community along the state’s border, resulting in abductions and heightened security operations.

According to a statement issued by Governor Ademola Adeleke after an emergency State Security Council meeting in Osogbo, a military‑supported rescue and security mission has been in progress for the past three days to locate the victims and secure the area.

Governor Adeleke described the incident as a serious security breach despite recent preventive efforts and said his administration is working closely with military and other security agencies to ensure the safe return of those taken and to prevent future attacks.

Officials have emphasized that security forces are advancing cautiously to avoid jeopardizing rescue efforts, with police, army and DSS teams combing the affected areas. The state is also planning to boost its security capabilities by deploying refurbished armoured tanks and additional patrol vehicles across Osun.

In response to concerns about spillover from neighbouring states like Kwara, new operational guidelines were issued for the Amotekun Corps, mandating closer coordination with the Nigeria Police to strengthen border security and joint patrols.

Residents were urged to be vigilant, especially at night during the festive season, as part of collective efforts to enhance safety.

Earlier reports indicated that gunmen had stormed the community on Monday night, abducting a former customs officer and killing at least one person during the assault.
