Deputy Governor Emetu Urges Igbo Lawyers to Champion Justice and Uphold Communal Pride

The Abia State Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, has called on Igbo legal practitioners to uphold the highest standards of justice, integrity, and professionalism, emphasizing their role in protecting the collective dignity of Ndi Igbo across all sectors of society.

Emetu made the appeal while representing Governor Alex Otti at the 2025 Annual Dinner and Award Night of Otu Oka Iwu, an association of lawyers of Igbo descent, held in Lagos. The event attracted senior legal professionals, government officials, and leaders of prominent Igbo socio-cultural organizations.

“Lawyers from Eastern Nigeria have a unique responsibility to safeguard the pride of Ndi Igbo in every sphere of life,” Emetu stated, underscoring the pivotal role of the legal profession in promoting justice and good governance.

The gathering also provided a platform for Otu Oka Iwu to reaffirm its dedication to unity, communal development, and justice in Nigeria. Speakers emphasized the importance of preserving Igbo heritage, fostering community bonds, and advancing excellence within the legal profession.

In his welcome remarks, Otu Oka Iwu President Mr. Okechukwu Unegbu described the event as both a celebration of professional achievement and a reaffirmation of the association’s core principles. “Tonight, we renew our commitment as custodians of justice, interpreters of the law, and ambassadors of the Igbo nation,” he said, praising award recipients for their outstanding contributions and pledging support for emerging lawyers.

Chair of the Planning Committee, Mrs. Augustina Igbokwe, highlighted the need to reposition the association as a central platform for Ndi Igbo in Lagos, reinforcing its mission to serve the community effectively.
